Child Seat Installed

This is a Seat Occupancy Recognition or Child Seat Installed Indicator symbol. More specifically, it indicates that a transponder-equipped Child Safety Seat is present in front seat of a vehicle. The front airbags are deactivated in this circumstance. A fault in the system is indicated if the symbol is flashing.

This is seen in some older vehicles only. The use of child seats in front seats is now outlawed nearly everywhere. However, the transponders would seem to be a good idea that could have been spread to rear seats in order to help avoid leaving young children behind in vehicles in warm weather.
