Fiat dashboard symbols page update nets 33 new entries

A completed Fiat dashboard symbols page update added an astonishing 33 new symbols and indicators. And 11 of them are new to our site.

Why astonishing? Because Fiat sells a single model, the 500e, into the North American market!

All but one of the additions are variations of existing symbols and many are due to the fact that the 500e is an electric vehicle. Fiat added 5 new speed limiter indicators and three for cruise control, mostly due to the trend to add black and white symbols denoting a system is ready to use.

In white, the system is ready. In green, the system is on. We’re showing only the ISA symbols here, and adding the fault symbol as well.

The one truly new symbol, which required a new post, involves the 500e‘s electronic door latches. The symbol denotes a fault in the latch system. More here.

Note that the electronic latch also requires a separate mechanical release lever inside the 500e inside handlevehicle in case of a power failure. All manufacturers that use electronic latches must create a separate mechanical release. Which begs the question: what is the point of an e-latch??

A useless latch system and, we’ll say it again: the more symbols that are created the more useless the entire indicator light system becomes. With nearly a dozen brand new entries, Fiat could really have done better here, as there are already symbols for most of the systems.

Cars are changing, and among those changes is the growing number of symbols and indicators that will invariably show up on your dashboard or instrument panel. Every year, new features are added to vehicles, each of which is accompanied by a new symbol or symbols and likely a new acronym.

At DashboardSymbols.com, our aim is to help you understand what is happening to your vehicle at the first sign of trouble – a new warning light illuminated on your instrument panel. Its all here on this website. Our first intention is to bring the latest technologies down to earth and understandable for everyday drivers.
