We’ve begun an overdue Vauxhall update with a re-arrangement of the symbols page. We’ve also discovered many changes will be needed to the open and start pages.

Why? Because it has been nearly five years since we first put the page up! There will likely be a very large symbols update as a result as well.

And the page already holds nearly 120 entries. It could be another long one, which we will get to once the open and start pages are finished.

The re-ordering has red warning lights and indicators up first, followed by red with yellow/amber/orange (depending on how you see the color!) alternatives, then strictly yellow/amber/orange symbols and warning lights, blue and green symbols and finally white and gray scale indicators.

As we’ve said, ordering the page by color provides a cleaner, simpler option for drivers searching for information on a new symbol. Embarrassingly, we should have made these changes long ago.

Cars are changing, and among those changes is the growing number of symbols and indicators that will invariably show up on your dashboard or instrument panel. Every year, new features are added to vehicles, each of which is accompanied by a new symbol or symbols and likely a new abbreviation or acronym.
