Audi symbols update

And well, they did it. Our Audi symbols update is finally done and they did it. The page now features over 200 symbols and indicators — 210 to be exact. It goes without saying that they are new “leader” in sheer numbers.

We added 81 symbols to the page, a full 67 that are new to our database.

Notable additions include nine, yes, nine, AdBlue indicators, five more (we already had four) predictive efficiency indicators, three park assist indicators and three emergency assist indicators.

One set of lane departure indicators perfectly illustrate why the Audi symbols page is so overloaded. The same symbol is repeated in multiple colors! In fact, there is a vast shift to the use of black and white indicators accompanied by test messages. The page now holds 57 of them.

To be sure, no one model will use all 210 symbols. However the A7 manual sports 139 alone! In all honesty, it seems that the company is bent on ensuring that several indicators are on at all times. We can’t help but feel that this is a massive distraction.

Further, the idea that any driver could be fully familiar with that many symbols and warning lights is beyond imagination. We will admit however, that if the company is shifting to using back and white symbols with explanatory text messages only, this could be an improvement over the current state of affairs industry wide.

Cars are changing, and among those changes is the growing number of symbols and indicators that will invariably show up on your dashboard or instrument panel. Every year, new features are added to vehicles, each of which is accompanied by a new symbol or symbols and likely a new abbreviation or acronym.

At DashboardSymbols.com, our aim is to help you understand what is happening to your vehicle at the first sign of trouble — a new warning light illuminated on your instrument panel. Its all here on this website. Our first intention is to bring the latest technologies down to earth and understandable for everyday drivers.

Our Audi symbols page and its 210 entries can be seen here.

Technology is always changing and what is current and accurate today may be literally out-of-date and inaccurate tomorrow. And when it comes to the current state of flux in the auto industry, nothing is more true.
