New Maserati models get a fresh back-up start

Much like the company’s back-up open procedures, a review of Maserati back-up start procedures also finds big changes. Although the change is not a difficult one, gone is the simple “touch the key fob to the start/stop button” method.

These back-up start procedures are made necessary if and when the battery in the key fob dies.

The new Grecale, GranTourismo, GranCabrio, GT2S and MC20 models all use a similar back-up system. Look for a spot which is an outline of the key fob at the bottom of the center console storage area. Place the key fob on the spot with the logo up (right). The vehicle will start as normal.

With the GT2S and MC20 you’ll find a pad covering the bottom of the console which must be removed to find the spot. Pull on the tab at the back of the pad. Place the fob in place and start the car.

Smart Keys or Intelligent Keys, or Access Keys — or whatever the manufacturer of your chooses to call them — that let you into your car and start it with just a touch use up their internal batteries at alarming rates, catching busy drivers unawares — even though the car had tried to warn you.
