Skoda symbols

Similar to our recent Audi update, a very long Skoda symbols update is at last over. We added exactly 50 new symbols and indicators to the page, with over half of them (26) new to our database. There are now 130 warning symbols and indicators on the Skoda page.

We haven’t done a full count in some time, but we were well over 1,000 on the site in January.

Among the additions are five new drive mode symbols, four Adaptive Cruise Control indicators, and three Front Assist indicators.

The drive modes are all presented in black and white, the oddest being what they call an Individual mode that features a pair of gears and the word mode. We cannot imagine how gears are supposed to represent an individual.

Skoda has an interesting take on adaptive cruise control with shifting green colors depending on whether lane guidance or travel assist or both are active.

Finally, front assist is an auto braking system that uses versions of Audi‘s Pre-sense system symbol in red to indicate a possible collision or a fault. They add a black and white version that simply tells the driver the system has been turned on.

Like many others, Skoda is using more and more images in black and white accompanied by explanatory text messages. While we will continue to plead with manufacturers to stop adding new symbols, this development could be an improvement over the current state of affairs industry wide.

Cars are changing, and among those changes is the growing number of symbols and indicators that will invariably show up on your dashboard or instrument panel. Every year, new features are added to vehicles, each of which is accompanied by a new symbol or symbols and likely a new abbreviation or acronym.

At DashboardSymbols.com, our aim is to help you understand what is happening to your vehicle at the first sign of trouble — a new warning light illuminated on your instrument panel. Its all here on this website. Our first intention is to bring the latest technologies down to earth and understandable for everyday drivers.

Our Skoda symbols page and its 130 entries can be seen here.

Technology is always changing and what is current and accurate today may be literally out-of-date and inaccurate tomorrow. And when it comes to the current state of flux in the auto industry, nothing is more true.
