Start a Skoda with a Dead Key Fob

How to Start Your Skoda

This page holds all of the emergency start or back-up start procedures needed for Skoda vehicles if the battery in the key fob dies or if there are electrical signals interfering with the fob.

There are two methods in Skoda vehicles that will allow you to start your car even if the battery in the key fob is dead.

The first is very simple and illustrated to the left. Simply push the Start / Stop button with the key fob itself while stepping on the brake. Using the back of the fob will work best.

The second is only marginally more complicated and seen first in Enyaq and Octavia models. Drop the key fob into the cup holder closest to the driver with the buttons up (right) (left hand drive).

The vehicle can then be started as normal, pushing the Start / Stop button while stepping on the brake. In all cases, assuming a good start battery, the key fob will be recognized.

Models examined include Enyaq, Fabia, Kamiq, Karoq, Kodiak, Octavia, Scala, and Superb. Model years 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024.
