We’ve completed a massive Maserati symbols update

Maserati symbols update

The turnover of nearly the entire fleet resulted in an extensive Maserati symbols update that more than doubled the number of dashboard symbols on the page.

Added were 72 symbols and indicators from four new models: the Grecale, GranTourismo, GranCabrio and GT2S. Included are two electric models adding a new dimension to the manufacturer and the symbols. Gone are the Levante, Ghibli, Quatroporte. Only the MC20 remains.

The new symbols more than doubles what the page held originally!

Maserati also continues an industry trend towards black and white indicators accompanied by text messages on the information screen. This trend could be seen as positive, if this eventually the traditional and still proliferating red, yellow, amber, etc. symbols.

Of the 72, only 26 are new to our database. We say only because this is actually a small number relative to the total number added.

Totally new offerings include an Electronic Differential (E-DIFF) Fault indicator (right) and a Charge Door Open Failure indicator. The Differential has an electrically engaged clutch and utilizes electronic sensors and controls to actively and dynamically distribute torque between the drive wheels. As an electronic system, a restart of the vehicle may reset the differential.

The charge door open failure is the result of an electronic charge door open button on a screen on the instrument panel. A back-up option is available which involves removing a cover beneath the door an pulling a cable release. Symbol barely resembles a door with an electrical plug.

Elsewhere, the company made six new images for cruise control and adaptive cruise control in three colors that were completely unnecessary. We’re showing a few here. Most other additions are also variations on existing symbols that, once again, we say only result in confused drivers.

And again, we ask the industry to please stop this proliferation!!

Cars are changing, and among those changes is the growing number of symbols and indicators that will invariably show up on your dashboard or instrument panel. Every year, new features are added to vehicles, each of which is accompanied by a new symbol or symbols and likely a new abbreviation or acronym.

At DashboardSymbols.com, our aim is to help you understand what is happening to your vehicle at the first sign of trouble — a new warning light illuminated on your instrument panel. Its all here on this website. Our first intention is to bring the latest technologies down to earth and understandable for everyday drivers.

Our Maserati symbols page and its nearly 125 entries can be seen here.
