Mini throws an EV charge curve

A final check of Mini dashboard symbols threw us a curve. The symbol often used to indicate a low high voltage battery charge or EV charge (below right) is used here to indicate a possible charging capacity issue, not a low state of charge!

This leaves a driver with the need to consult their owner’s manual to be absolutely sure of the symbol’s meaning. The new meaning suggests that the charge capacity of a station being used may be restricted or not available.

So, of course, if the car is not plugged in, then the charge is low. However, if it is plugged in, the manual should be consulted.

Alternatively, if unplugging the vehicle resolves the light, the issue belongs to the charge station. Find another!
