Acura open and start review reveals two surprises

Acura open and start

We just completed a review of 2025 and 2026 Acura open and start back-up processes and note a surprising change and a surprise period.

Back-up open and start processes are necessary in the event that the battery in the key fob dies.

We noticed a slight change to the start process and, looking back, realized that it was added in 2024. The manuals state to press the Start/Stop button first! This sets off a beep sound that lasts about 30 seconds and the Start/Stop button will begin to flash, also for about 30 seconds.

This 30 second period is when the Start/Stop button can be touched with the back of the fob. The driver then has 10 seconds to start the vehicle as normal.

Previously, if the vehicle wouldn’t start, the instructions called for the fob to be touched to the button resulting in a 30 second period to start the vehicle.

We have not tested a model newer than 2023 to verify that this is truly necessary.

As to the surprise, we did not find a ZDX model after 2024! There is but one 2026 manual available currently and the ZDX may yet be updated for 2026. We have not seen an announcement concerning the future of the ZDX one way or the other.

The Acura open and start processes can be seen beginning here.
