As we assemble our next EV jump starting video, this one for Ford, we’ve found that procedures for Transit and Lightning EVs are far easier and more straight forward than the Mustang Mach E, as we noted in another post.
And it “starts” with the fact that the two trucks use a traditional key fob and key cylinder.
Remove the mechanical key from the fob by pushing the button on the front of the fob and pulling the key ring end (above right). The driver’s door is unlocked by using the key in the visible key hole.
Once inside, open the hood.
Transit models supply access to jump points immediately visible (right).
Those points on the Lightning are beneath a cover on the driver’s side held in by clips.
The clips (far right) require a counterclockwise turn which releases them. Pull the cover away beginning at the rear, exposing the Lightning‘s jump points (right).
We’re going to say again, all vehicles must have a mechanical key, preferably as part of the key fob and an available lock cylinder for unlocking.
This should be seen as a driver safety issue, period.
