Alfa Romeo back-up

We have completed a full review of Alfa Romeo back-up entry and start processes and find that the company has not changed any of those processes. These back-up processes are necessary in keyless start vehicles in the inevitable event of the battery in the key fob dying.

The last model introduced to the North American market, the Tonale, is the odd man out on the start side, using front cup holder as a back-up spot (left). The other two models, the Giulia and Stelvio, use a marked location inside the center console (right).

We would prefer to see the company use the same location across its model line-up.

To their credit, Alfa remains one of the few auto manufacturers who do not hide a key hole in some fashion or other. They key hole remains visible at the back of the driver’s door handle for easy access under what are generally and genuinely stressful moments for a driver and his or her passengers.

Smart Keys or Intelligent Keys, or Access Keys — or whatever the manufacturer of your chooses to call them — that let you into your car and start it with just a touch use up their internal batteries at alarming rates, catching busy drivers unawares — even though the car had tried to warn you. Getting in your car with a dead key fob requires the work our posts and videos describe.
