We spend a great deal of time in automotive manuals and find fault all too often. So this is another owner’s manual rant, this time at Kia regarding my 2022 Niro EV.
The car has been throwing a service interval reminder which was non-sense given the miles I’m not putting on the car. So, opened the manual to find a way to reset the reminder, and it was of little help.
So I turned to the Internet for help, and found exactly what I needed in the video linked here.
In retrospect, the right information was nearly there in the manual. In the opening description of the controls shown, it says that the OK button is a Select/Reset button. However, reading the description in the manual of the Service Interval reset, it implied that a reset option would be a visible choice. Many other menu items work this way.
There was no reset choice on the menu, and all the manual said was Reset, without stating that the OK button would be needed, or referring back to the original description of the button. And never is a hold down time mentioned at all!
The video, which is less than a minute long, was spot on, and a far simpler option for instruction.
Just exactly how to do this in prose on a manual page remains elusive.

Technology is always changing and what is current and accurate today may be literally out-of-date and inaccurate tomorrow. And when it comes to the current state of flux in the auto industry, nothing is more true.
