Volvo, Polestar add needless complexity to open door indicator

Open door

While we continue to gather what we need for a Polestar and Volvo jump start video, we ran across the image below right. It is a somewhat familiar open door warning with added coloring, or lack thereof.

Some late (~2025 and newer) models have rather pointlessly added seat coloring, or rather de-coloring, to evidently reinforce the view of which door is open. The driver’s seat is turned white and the driver’s door is shown open.

Initially, a far larger graphic is displayed. As soon as the graphic is acknowledged, or after a short time if the graphic is not acknowledged, it may switch to the smaller format (above) and be shown at the top of the instrument panel instead.

Any other seat turned white coupled with an open door points to the proper door to look for, including the middle back seat added to the open tailgate.

To the right is a more traditional looking door ajar warning. It shows all four doors open as an example, but would display only the actual open door or multiple open doors if applicable in practice.

The use of the seats alongside the open door is truly unnecessary and we found it confusing , and more difficult to decipher, when it was first encountered. From our perspective, the seat coloring is a needless addition that only satisfies the whims of the manufacturer and serves no other useful purpose.
