Niro annoyance

Every now and again, I step into the Kia Niro, get settled and put the car in Drive only to get an alert complete with sound to put the vehicle in Park, without any indication as to why. I now understand this Niro annoyance.

As can be seen in the video below, I go from Drive to Park, and still nothing. At least not in an even remotely timely manner. Only a note that the ignition is on.

I actually set up the video to show this, and only then, while holding the camera, did an answer actually appear. A door ajar. It really, really should come up sooner, or alongside one of the two previous messages!

What I would do up to now, is I would check whatever doors I might have used, usually the driver’s door, far sooner than the final message display, and start again. And now, since again I set up the scenario for recording purposes, I deliberately left the driver’s door ajar. Lo and behold, the door open symbol was actually displayed before all of the hubbub!

The point here is, unless a driver happens to look at the message screen before trying to drive off, the alert sound and the shift to Park message are the first indications that anything is amiss and there’s simply not enough information given in a timely manner! Its 18 seconds to the door open display.

I can’t prove this, but it’s likely the same across the Kia universe.

I hate to say it, but this one needs either an alert sound from the start, or again, a dual display when a sound is finally heard. An awful lot can happen in 18 seconds.

Check out the sequence below.
