BTS releases motor fuel prices for October

Despite the government shutdown, BTS continues to spew statistics. The U.S. Department of Transportation, Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) released monthly motor fuels prices for October 2025. The average price for regular motor gasoline was $3.06 per gallon; down 3.3% from September 2025 and 2.5% from October 2024.

By region, the average price for regular motor gasoline in October 2025 and year-over-year change was up on the West Coast ($4.18, 3.9%) and down everywhere else.

  • Central Atlantic: $3.09 (down 3.1%)
  • Rocky Mountain: $3.02 (down 6.7%)
  • New England: $2.97 (down 2.2%)
  • Midwest: $2.86 (down 5.3%)
  • Lower Atlantic: $2.84 (down 3.7%)
  • Gulf Coast: $2.62 (down 3.2%)

The average price for diesel no. 2 rose to $3.68 in October 2025, down 1.8% from September 2025, but up 2.6% from October 2024.
