Infiniti review finds no changes to back-up processes to open and start their vehicles

Back-up processes

A full review of 2025 and 2026 Infiniti models finds no changes to back-up processes to open and start their models. A the new door handle found in a previous review in the QX80 has not found its way to additional models.

Back-up open and start processes are made necessary in the event of electrical interference with the key fob’s signal or if the battery in the fob is discharged.

Back-up start processes remain the simplest in the industry. That process, which matches those for Nissan models, is to simply touch the back of the key fob to the start/stop button (left) to start the vehicle.

As to back-up open processes, only the QX80 comes remotely close to hiding the key hole and it is easily revealed by pushing the front of the handle and pulling the back of the handle out to reveal the key hole (right).

The Nissan Leaf now uses this handle as well.

To Infiniti‘s credit no other models hide the key hole at all, a feature we find to be a safety concern in far too many cars.
