Jeep makes changes to key cylinders in two models

Key cylinders

A complete review of back-up open and start processes in Jeep vehicles for 2025 and 2026 finds changes to key cylinders on two models. In a first for the company, the 2025 Wagoneer and 2026 Cherokee models now hide the cylinders behind a piece that needs to be removed.

Back-up start processes remain unchanged.

A back-up method for unlocking and starting keyless start models for those moments when the key fob’s battery is depleted or encounters interference.

A door handle that is inset somewhat to the door panel is introduced in these models. A small cover is seen on the right side of the grip area (right). The mechanical key is needed to pry it off and reveal the keyhole.

All other Jeep vehicles have a clear and obvious keyhole with one possible exception. Wagoneer models from 2022 through 2024 feature a keyhole that is revealed when the door handle is pulled open.
