The Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) has released the change in consumer costs for transportation goods and services, from November 2024 to November 2025.
The changes are measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and, for all transportation goods and services, rose 1.6% over the period.
Used cars and trucks contributed the most to inflation, rising 3.6% year-over-year and contributing 3.1% to the annual change in the price of all goods and services.
By item, the top three contributors to inflation in November 2025 were:
Used cars and trucks: +3.1%
Motor vehicle maintenance and repair: +2.6%
New vehicles: +1.0%
Gasoline (all types): +1.0%
In contrast, the top three items which dampened transportation’s contribution to inflation were airline fares, which showed a 1.7% decline, and leased cars and trucks, which dipped 0.6% year on year.
Per the CPI, transportation goods and services accounted 9.7% to the 2.7% increase in the price of all goods and services. Motor vehicle insurance costs were flat for the period.
