We just uploaded a new video to our channel on YouTube with help for drivers for a Nissan EV jump start. It is the ninth video in our series intended to help drivers of electric vehicles (EVs) in the inevitable event of a 12-volt battery failure.
It continues to surprise the motoring public that EVs use a 12-volt battery to actually start the car, much like a 12-volt battery is used to start an internal combustion engine vehicle. And if that battery dies, the EV can in fact be jump started!
Nissan currently offers two electric models, the Leaf and Ariya. The jump start processes in all models is essentially, even in the earliest Leaf models. We include instructions for entry, anticipating that the driver would be locked out.
The latest (2026) Leaf adds a flush door handle, which we demonstrate getting past to get inside.
All in all, the process is quite simple and straight forward. On the other hand, next on our docket are Rivian models, which will require opening a spot on the rear bumper!
