A review of 2025 and 2026 Chevrolet back-up open processes resulted in several changes to the page. These include a 2024 addition we had somehow missed.
We’ll start with the missing piece. The Equinox EV, introduced in 2024, uses a door handle that, while not uncommon in the industry, is way outside the bounds of what has been near standard for Chevrolet.
It is a flush door handle that needs to be pulled open to access the key hole if he key fob encounters interference or its battery is dead (right). Push the front of the handle inwards to force the rear outward if the handle does not present itself automatically.
Elsewhere, a new key hole cover first introduced in the Blazer EV is now added to standard Equinox models as well as Traverse models.
To access the key holes in the these models, locate a slot on the underside of the handle (right). Note that the cap is only about a 1/4 inch thick. Insert the mechanical key into the slot and turn it counterclockwise to release the cap. It can then be pulled away.
