A review of 2025 models resulted in the addition of 14 new indicators and warning lights to our Rivian symbols page. Ten of the 14 entries are new to our database, and we’re still scratching our heads over some of them.
As a for instance, the company is the first to offer up icons for the defrost/defog system. They separate the defrost from the defog cycle with the use of a red and blue symbol, respectively. But truly a head scratcher is the use of a white symbol when the system is off!
Similarly, Rivian has added a red and white symbols to indicate that the rear window defogger is on and off, respectively, as well! The yellow/amber/orange one is a reminder to turn the defog off so as not to damage the system.
Its truly baffling to imagine the need for either of the white indicators, and if we get a little time with one of the models again, we’ll do some additional investigation tp perhaps discover a useful reason.
Elsewhere, the company has backed itself into a corner, using electronic opening and closing for the hood, tailgate and liftgate. Not only does this add the need for mechanical back-ups, it also adds four new malfunction indicators.
It is not difficult to imagine the tiny exclamation points being missed by the driver…
