Subaru hits nearly 70,000 owners with park outside warning

Some 69,153 Subaru Hybrid vehicles have earned a park outside warning and a recall due to a potential fuel leak and the resulting fire risk.

The issue is a possible insufficient seal on the fuel cap, and includes 51,707 2025 Forester Hybrid vehicles produced between November 28, 2024 and December 05, 2025 .

In addition, 17,446 2026 Crosstrek Hybrids produced between June 26, 2025 and March 06, 2026 also face this recall.

Subaru of America, Inc. is advising owners of these vehicles to park outside and away from structures, and to limit the fuel level to 50% until the remedy is complete.

If the affected vehicles are left parked when the fuel tank is near full, an ambient temperature increase may cause the fuel to expand, increasing the pressure in the fuel tank and causing the fuel level to rise up the filler neck.

In this circumstance, an insufficient seal on the fuel cap assembly may allow fuel to leak from the filler neck. Dealers will replace the fuel filler cap gasket, free of charge.

Vehicles unaffected by the recall are fitted with an improved filler cap gasket and an added O-ring that enhances sealing.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 25, 2026. In the interim, owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614. Subaru‘s number for this recall is WRD-26.

Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on February 16, 2026. The NHTSA ID Number is 26V106000.
