While updating the symbols page for Hyundai, we have run headlong into a set of warning light pairs that we have seen before, but have struggled to present.
In the case of Hyundai, the company uses a pair of symbols (left) to indicate a problem with Brake Force Distribution and sometimes another pair (right) to indicate an issue with the Regenerative Braking system in their electric vehicles (EVs).
Each begins with the Electronically Controlled Brake fault indicator, and the first adds the ABS warning. The red indicator is already a combination of what is more typically seen as three separate brake system warnings.
But the ABS system is certainly involved, and its addition becomes necessary to separate it from Brake Fault. We anticipated a change over time, but a new warning light has not emerged.
With Regenerative Braking, it too begins with the Electronically Controlled Brake fault indicator. Given this, the second indicator is necessary to distinguish it from the overall brake fault.
In this case, other manufacturers have managed to create separate Regenerative Braking System warning lights like the one to the right. This and others should spread through the industry,
So, we’ve opted to first, to begin noting in the table containing a manufacturer’s warning lights that the indicators will likely be seen together.
