Cadillac and Chevrolet drive mode indicators

Cadillac and Chevrolet

Lets start by saying that if you are surprised to see one of these indicators, it is likely a drive mode has been accidently activated via one of the buttons on the steering wheel.

Cadillac and Chevrolet use a bewildering number of mode options that can be set by the vehicle’s driver.

In fact, a grid is necessary in the newest Cadillac owner’s manual to note just how many options there are! We’ve added it at the bottom of the page. In the meantime …

The first uses a distorted letter V to indicate that V-MODE or velocity mode is chosen. V-Mode allows personalization of dynamic driving through the configuration of vehicle subsystems (steering, braking, suspension, etc.) for maximum handling. The option exists only as part of a V-Series vehicle. Vmax came later which gives the driver maximum power and is intended only for limited use.

Z MODE offers exactly the same options, but in a different model. It indicates that a specific driving mode has been chosen as set by a specific driver. The image of a head and shoulders alone or alongside a steering wheel are MY MODE indicators. Again, drive options are chosen by the driver.

Inside these modes are the choices that are seen in the grid. These range from left to right from Off road, Sport (2), to Race (also 2) modes. Pro mode is the last image seen, found in the Corvette.

The company uses three modes for off road driving. The first is Off Road mode, followed by Baja Mode and then Terrain mode. It is not immediately clear what the differences are, but Baja mode will likely handle sandy ground.

And there are still more. These include Normal, Wet and Dry modes. These last two are Performance traction modes, which are subsets of Sprot and Track modes.

These two are found in together in some models. From the left are Tour mode and Track mode. Tour mode are simple lane lines while Track mode actually manages to resemble a race track.

Various Weather modes are used by the companies. The first is a Ran and Snow mode indicator. The second is an actual Weather mode indicator followed by a Snow and Ice mode indicator.

Finally are these, which may be seen in green in older models or black and white in newer models. These include a Track mode (noted above), and another Sport mode indicator.

Again, these are all options chosen by the driver. If it is not intended, run through those choices found on the menu button on the steering wheel.

Here’s Cadillac’s drive mode grid …
