Emergency or back-up start procedures are needed when the battery in the key fob dies or when there is electrical interference causing difficulties.
We now host 30 variations of back-up slot locations for a dozen or so Ford models. In truth, many of the spots are similar to others, but the reality is that each variation is different enough to warrant its own image and presentation.
Expedition models get two new back-up slot possibilities beginning in 2025. Which one to look for depends on whether or not the vehicle has an armrest.
If there is no armrest, look for a slot beneath the USB and 12-volt power ports (right).
If the vehicle lacks an arm rest, it gets a little more complicated. Open the storage area to the left of the cup holders. Then lift the pad at the bottom of that area (and remove anything that may be stored there). Look for a fob-shaped depression on the floor of the storage area (right).
Ranger models have a new back-up slot it shares with Bronco and Maverick models, and actually first used in 2024. It is a spot found at the bottom of the center console.
There is no mat to remove, although any items stored there will need to be moved out of the way. A fob-shaped depression will be seen (right).
Finally, we had to do a complete reset of our Transit segment. We missed the fact that Transit Connect versions use a very different back-up spot location from other Transit models. Connect models use a spot in the middle and at the top of the dashboard (right).
