Note that if you are surprised to see one of these it is likely a drive mode has been accidently activated via one of the buttons on the steering wheel.
Over time Skoda has used three separate ECO mode indicators. In all cases, ECO mode improves energy, meaning fuel, efficiency by controlling motors and gear. The acceleration response may be slightly reduced if the accelerator pedal is depressed moderately. Air conditioner performance may be limited as well.
ECO mode was one of the first drive modes introduced in the industry as fuel economy began to have an impact. Thus those first indicators were green and we posted on them separately on this linked page. Skoda now uses a leaf as its mode indicator.
Skoda uses a number of drive mode indicators in the growing black and white trend, including the ECO mode above depicted as a leaf. First up are Normal mode, which is seen as no more than straight lane lines and is the default mode on start up. This is followed by Comfort mode, which we admit is cleverly depicted as a cloud. Both modes feature smooth, quiet rides useful for longer cruises.
This is followed by Individual mode and Sport mode. Individual mode allows the selection and saving of driving functions such as engine, transmission, suspension, and steering responsiveness. Sport mode makes the response choices for the driver and assumes more aggressive choices.
Finally, there are Off-road mode indicators, which is depicted as a winding path seemingly headed towards mountains or the mountains alone. Braking and stabilization systems are adjusted to accommodate a slower pace and uneven terrain. Grade assist functions are also activated.
