This page holds Toyota Drive Mode Indicator symbols. The list of drive modes on our original page grew so large it became apparent that separate manufacturer pages would be appropriate.

Note that if you are surprised to see one of these it is likely a drive mode has been accidently activated via one of the buttons on the steering wheel or center console.

This mode improves fuel economy through moderate throttle characteristics and by controlling the operation of the air conditioning system, both  heating and cooling. Range in particular is applied primarily to hybrid models, where the high-voltage battery use is optimized for long duration use. When first seen in a Toyota, the ECO mode indicator was green.

Custom modeComfort mode indicator Comfort mode indicatorThese modes are relatively self explanatory. However, Custom and Comfort modes include the need to choose various suspension, steering and handling settings. As with ECO above, the first use of Comfort mode in Toyota models came with a green indicator, but this and other manufacturers are opting to use black and white indicators in information screens.

Expert modeExpert mode, found in performance models, reduces or disables stability and traction control systems to allow experienced drivers greater control over the vehicle, particularly for track driving or drifting. The mode allows for more aggressive handling and wheel spin without the car cutting power, whereas standard modes prioritize safety and stability.

Br mode indicatorToyota’s hydrogen powered Mirai has this Br – or Brakemode option, which is found on the shifter. It is intended for driving in conditions that require strong deceleration force, such as down-hill driving, etc. The indicator will be seen when the mode is selected, which draws braking power from the traction battery.
