DC charging the Kia Niro took a step up in both charge rate and resulting range this week.
I didn’t do any preparation for the charge, but its likely the ambient temperature at the time, ~75F, did the trick. The car didn’t hit the claimed 90 kW peak, but did top out at 77 kW. It made for a far quicker charge. The grainy image (left) shows the rate at 75 kW.`
The resulting range was nearly ten miles better than the last charge. It extrapolated to 292 miles from the 240 shown at what was an 82% charge. This is versus the 283 mile result about 10 days ago.
I missed the new discount time from Electrify America starting at 10pm though. I was already near the charge station at 8pm, and rather than make the trip a second time, opted to swallow the higher $0.64 kWh rate.
Will certainly shoot for the later charge time next round, and meant to this time! After all, at a time of rising gas prices, and rising prices across the board, the opportunity for a discount on anything is a big plus!
But a fuel discount today is particularly satisfying!
