EV Jump startWe’ve added a new EV jump start video to our YouTube channel for Lexus and Toyota electric vehicle (EV) drivers. It is the eighth video in our series intended to help drivers of EVs in the inevitable event of a 12-volt battery failure.
It continues to surprise the motoring public that EVs use a 12-volt battery to actually start the car, much like a 12-volt battery is used to start an internal combustion engine vehicle. And if that battery dies, the EV can in fact be jump started!
Lexus and Toyota offer four electric models, the RZ 300e and 450e and the bZ and bZ4x respectively. The jump start processes in all models is remarkably similar.
However, given a dead start battery, it’s a good bet the driver is locked out, and Lexus adds a degree of difficulty for getting in. The RZ models hide the keyhole, and we include a demonstration to reveal it.
