If the switch is activated in error, it can be found on the door panel with the other lock and window switches.

  • Before continuing, are you sure this is your symbol?? If yes, then read on below.
  • Otherwise, you can return to our main Picture Symbols page and scan again!

The image is shown as what appears to be an open book with a rod or paddle beneath it in yellow/amber. Press the switch again to release the lockout.

Electric Side Step or Automatic Running Board Indicators

Electric Side Step

Electric side step indicatorAuto runboard blocked indicatorThese are Electric Side Step or Automatic Running Board Indicator symbols. It is seen when the electric side step is activated by opening the side door or operating the sliding side door. If the first image remains lit, it indicates a fault that will require service. Be sure to check that the step is retracted before moving the vehicle.

  • Before continuing, are you sure one of these is your symbol?? If yes, then read on below.
  • Otherwise, you can return to our main Picture Symbols page and scan again!

If the second image remains lit, it indicates an obstruction preventing the running board from fully extending or retracting. Check for obstacles. If the warning light flashes, it indicates a fault that will require service from a qualified shop.

Side steps or running boards extend automatically to improve access to the vehicles. The first image appears as a tall rectangle (a van) with two circles or wheels underneath and a line and plus sign on one side in yellow/amber. The line represents the step.

The second appears a the side of a car with something protruding from it (the running board) and a double ended arrow, also in yellow/amber.

Running board indicatorThis truly oversimplified symbol, which consists only of parallel lines, indicates that the running boards have not extended in automatic mode. It is seen in black and white in the information screen and will be accompanied by a text message noting a problem. It is likely that they need to be cleaned in order to operate properly. The running boards can be extended in manual mode.

In addition, proper safety procedures and precautions, such as the  use of safety goggles, the right tools and the equipment should be followed at all times to eliminate the possibility of personal injury or improper service which could damage the vehicle or compromise its safety.

Child Seat Installed Indicator

Seat Occupied

Child seat occupied indicatorThis is a Seat Occupancy Recognition or Child Seat Installed Indicator symbol. More specifically, it indicates that a transponder-equipped Child Safety Seat is present in front seat of a vehicle. The front airbags are deactivated in this circumstance. A fault in the system is indicated if the symbol is flashing.

  • Before continuing, are you sure this is your symbol?? If yes, then read on below.
  • Otherwise, you can return to our main Picture Symbols page and scan again!

The image is a drawing of a seat with a smaller seat facing it with a child inside. There is an X in the corner, and all is in yellow/amber.

This is seen in some older vehicles only. The use of child seats in front seats is now outlawed nearly everywhere. However, the transponders would seem to be a good idea that could have been spread to rear seats in order to help avoid leaving young children behind in vehicles in warm weather.

Remember that only proper service and repair procedures will ensure the safe and reliable operation of your car. In addition, proper safety procedures and precautions, such as the  use of safety goggles, the right tools and the equipment should be followed at all times to eliminate the possibility of personal injury or improper service which could damage the vehicle or compromise its safety.

Anti Theft Alarm Audio Disabled Indicator

Alarm Disabled

Anti theft alarm indicatorThis is an Anti Theft Alarm Disabled Indicator symbol.  The light will be seen when the audible portion of the vehicle’s alarm system has been disabled. The alarm system itself remains active. The indicator appears in  yellow/amber as a car with wavy lines inside, which indicate sound, all crossed by a line running though it at an angle.

  • Before continuing, are you sure this is your symbol?? If yes, then read on below.
  • Otherwise, you can return to our main Picture Symbols page and scan again!

In some vehicles, the audio portion of the alarm system can be switched off using a button with the same image on it. It is suggested for use while the vehicle is being transported by truck, ferry or train, as the alarm can be triggered when tipped. It can also be tripped by high volume ultrasonic signals.
