Honda and Acura build a mechanical key into the key fob (remote control or 
‘clicker’). There are three different but similar key fob styles. The first one has a release button near the gap for a key ring, and is used for Acura models.
The second key fob, also used by Acura, uses a sliding button near the top of what is actually the mechanical key itself. The third one, found on Honda key fobs, uses a slide button just below the mechanical key on the main body of the remote control. See the image below right.
To remove mechanical key, pull it out while pressing the Acura release button or sliding the Honda release button. To reinstall the built-in key, push the key into the remote until it clicks. With one exception, use the mechanical key to unlock the driver’s door.
There are two exception. The first is found in the Honda Civic beginning with the 2022 model year and the Acura Integra beginning in 2023. In these models the key cylinder is hidden behind the driver’s door handle. It is exposed simply by pulling the handle into the open position (left). The mechanical key can then be inserted into the cylinder. Other models may follow.
The introduction of the Acura ZDX and Honda Prologue all electric models in 2024 also brings an entirely new door handle. In this case, the lock cylinder is hiding behind a cap at the back of the handle. Insert the mechanical key into the slot shown in the image to the right. Turn the key and the cap moves to the right and can be removed. This reveals the lock cylinder. The key can now be used in the cylinder to unlock the car.
Important: After using the mechanical key, return it to the electronic key fob. The key fob itself may require the mechanical key to be present to operate.

These are all variations of of Keyless Ignition Key Fob Detection indicators. A number of picture symbols are used to indicate the presence of an electronic key in a push button or, ironically, keyless start, or keyless ignition, vehicle. These systems will allow a vehicle to be started without turning a key in an ignition switch but only when an electronic key is present in, and detected by, the vehicle.
The image seen as an open padlock with lines radiating away in yellow/amber as well as the black and white image with a padlock are used to indicate that the proper key fob has not been detected. Its internal battery may be dead or the fob is actually missing.
The flashing red Electronic Key symbol on the left indicates that the key is not detected. If the Key is in the vehicle, its internal battery is likely dead and needs to be replaced. The same Electronic Key symbol shown in green indicates that the key is found and the vehicle can be started. The last one in yellow/amber is yet another style indicating a problem. But, there’s more…
This one, which is an image of a key with a line drawn through it in yellow/amber, indicates that the key fob is not present or is malfunctioning. So, if the key fob is present, have your dealer or a locksmith repair or replace it.
Note that some manufacturers will have the light flash in green to indicate a weak fob battery. Thus, any time an electronic key indicator is seen to flash, consult your manual or your dealer for clarification. And the image in actuality is shown by its vehicle manufacturer when the system is in use. Nothing more.
These are Key Fob Indicator symbols and are meant to resemble the driver’s hand-held remote control, or fob. The one on the left indicates that the fob is not detected or has been removed from the vehicle. If the fob is in the vehicle, it is not detected and its battery is likely dead. The symbol to its right with the added lighting bolt indicates that the fob is detected but that the battery in the fob is low and should be replaced.
These symbols are Low Key Battery Indicators. The images of a key are shown above or alongside the image of what most resembles a AA or AAA battery with its level low. One adds the letter E for empty to the right. Replace the battery as soon as possible. They do NOT use AA or AAA batteries!
Electronic keys, key fobs, remote controls, smart keys, intelligent keys, advanced keys are all terms used by manufacturers and drivers to describe the same device. You get to get into and start your vehicle only if the correct device is present, has a working battery and is not interfered with by other electronics (actually rare). All the images include the representation of a key and depending on the manufacturer, may include an exclamation point, a question mark or even a lightning bolt.

These are External Sound System Fault Indicator symbols. An External Sound System is used in some electric vehicles (EVs) or hybrid vehicles operating in EV mode to alert pedestrians to the presence of the vehicle.
These lights, showing curved lines emanating from a car, with or without the word OFF, indicate a problem with system, which must be addressed by your dealer or qualified service center. Variations exist in color (red or yellow/amber) and style. A speaker is shown with the car in the second and third images seen in amber.

These are High Voltage Battery Charge Level Indicator symbols. The image of a lightning bolt in a box or rectangle, is found on the instrument panels of some plug-in hybrid vehicles and is illuminated when the main battery’s charge is low. The image of cascading rectangles with plus and minus signs is found in some full electric vehicles.
The vehicle needs to be plugged into a charging station or its gasoline engine needs to be operated to recharge the battery. Gasoline engine operation may not be possible in some vehicles until the main battery is charged via a charging station.
Another manufacturer uses three versions with an outline in blue, yellow/amber or red. Blue indicates that the battery has a full charge. Yellow/amber indicates that the charge level is low. Red indicates that the battery must be charged.
And another uses this set of indicators. From left to right, the first image is in green with a checkmark and indicates a full charge. The second in yellow/amber and a lightning bolt inside indicates the vehicle is being charged. And the third, also in yellow/amber, indicates a time has been set to begin charging. The inset is a clock face. The charge indicator will go to red if the charge level drops too low.
Each manufacturer seems intent on creating their own set of charge indicators. This set shows a bar that moves right to left in a rounded rectangle, It changes color as the battery is drained and goes from yellow/amber/orange to red and finally adds an exclamation point as the the battery’s charge gets lower and lower.
Another set of images appear here. In Blue, the vehicle is charging. In Green, the EV is plugged in and ready to charge. In Red, charging is impossible. The indicator will also be blinking. The charge cable or battery may be over heated. The vehicle should be inspected by a competent technician.

These are EV Charging Indicator symbols used in electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles. The indicators, the first of which look like a typical electric plug, will be illuminated or blinking while the vehicle’s main battery is being charged and will turn off when it is fully charged.
Minor variations include color (red, yellow/amber, green or black and white) and wire style or the use of the word CHARGE or the short CHG version. A charge level indicator may also be shown on the instrument panel. The red and yellow/amber versions are intended to ensure that no attempt is made to drive the vehicle away while it is still plugged in.
This pair of symbols is from Lincoln. The first in green indicates that charging is ongoing. The second in yellow/amber/orange indicates that charging has failed. The exclamation point is there for added emphasis. If the second indicator flashes for 30 seconds, it indicates that the problem with the charge is exterior to the vehicle.
Finally, some hybrid vehicles include a SAVE mode indicator. When in Save mode, the vehicle drives in a way that maintains the charge level of the high voltage battery. The indicator will likely be shown in black and white in the information display.

This is the Low Brake Fluid Indicator symbol. Our first recommendation is to take your vehicle to the dealer or authorized service center for maintenance. You may check the brake fluid level and add fluid appropriate to the vehicle make and model, but please read on first…
It is important to note that the brake fluid level will drop as the brake pads wear down normally. Thus it may be simply be time for new brakes. Otherwise, there may be a leak in the brake system. While both are serious, a leak is worse. Use this light as a sign that your vehicle should be checked ASAP for important brake maintenance.
The image includes wavy lines inside the circle and brackets used as a standard to indicate brakes.

This is a Turn Assist Indicator symbol. It will be illuminated only when the function is active and the green color only says it is operating. Turn assist is available in some all-wheel drive vehicle and only when the additional slow-speed or rough terrain systems are also active.
The image looks like the four wheels drawn in a stick figure with a looping arrow in the front, with the wheels seemingly pointing only to the right.
