Sign Recognition

These are various Traffic Sign Recognition System Indicator symbols. If one is displayed as a sign (far left), it shows the actual sign as it was recognized. Shown here is an example of a speed limit sign of either 50 miles per hour or kilometers per hour.

With two exceptions these images are displayed in black and white in the vehicles message center. The first yellow/amber/orange version will be seen as a warning light in the instrument panel. It and the image of a sign set next to a vehicle indicates a laundry list of potential problems with the system. They indicates that the car will not currently recognize traffic signs. This is also the case if an exclamation point is seen in the message center rather than a recognizable traffic sign.

The second one simply says that the traffic sign recognition feature has been turned off.

A text message may also be seen on the instrument panel describing the problem. It will range from view restrictions due to surroundings; a malfunction in the navigation system; sign based speed warning; no valid navigation data and no speed limits detected by the navigation system; the data may be unavailable in the current geography; or an actual malfunction in the system. In any of these scenarios the system will switch itself off.

If the text displays an actual malfunction, have your dealer or qualified service shop repair the system.
