Regenerative Brake Warning Indicator

Regenerative Brakes

Brake force dist indicatorElectronically Controlled Brake WarningTo the far left is first Regenerative Brake Warning Indicator symbol. It is made from the combined Electronically Controlled Brake System Fault indicator and the Parking Brake and Brake Fluid Warning Indicator. The symbol next to it, with the exclamation point, may also be shown alone and also indicates a problem with the system.

  • Before moving on, are you sure this is your symbol?? If yes, then continue on below.
  • Otherwise return to our main Picture Symbols page and scan again!

This pair of warning lights will be seen together  when the regenerative brake does not operate and the brake does not perform well. This causes the Brake Warning light (red) and Regenerative Brake Warning Light (yellow/amber) to illuminate. These colors are opposite what is shown above.

Regenerative braking limitedThis version may be seen and is a Limited Regenerative Braking indicator. It is not a fault indicator but is actually a function of the battery’s state of charge. If the battery is full, regenerative braking must be limited as there is no storage available for additional electrons. The symbol starts with the traditional symbol — although the brakes themselves are not involved: the circle inside brackets with the addition of a lightning bolt.

Contact an authorized service shop as soon as possible.

Parking Brake and Brake Fluid Warning Indicator

Park Brake And Fluid

Brake force dist indicatorThis is a Parking Brake and Brake Fluid Warning Indicator symbol. It combines three of what are often seen as separate indicators: the text BRAKE indicator, the exclamation point in the brake drum drawing, and the letter ‘P’ also inside the drum. The wrapped circle or drum is a typical first representation of brakes.

  • Before moving on, are you sure this is your symbol?? If yes, then continue on below.
  • Otherwise return to our main Picture Symbols page and scan again!

If applicable in your vehicle this warning light will be on if the parking brake is applied, which does not indicate a problem, or when the brake fluid level in the reservoir is low, which does. If the light is still seen when the parking brake is released, the brake fluid level is low.

With disc brakes, when the pads are heavily worn, the brake fluid level will be lowered as a matter of course. Check of have the brake pads checked for wear before adding brake fluid. One way or the other, do not ignore this warning light.

  • Before moving on, are you sure this is your symbol?? If yes, then continue on below.

Steering and Lane Change Assist Alert Indicators

Steering Assist

Steering assist alertTake the wheel indicatorActive steering assist indicatorThese are Steering and Lane Change Assist Alert Indicator symbols. It will be displayed when hands are not in contact with the steering wheel. If this is the case, steering assist is then disabled. It appears as a steering wheel in gray scale or red with two hands shown in red. The image of the steering wheel may also be shown in green and yellow/amber under the appropriate conditions, without the hands.

  • Before moving on, are you sure this is your symbol??
  • If not, you can return to our main Picture Symbols page and scan again!

Steering assist helps to keep the vehicle in its lane and otherwise under control. However, the driver’s hands are to remain on the wheel. When steering wheel operation is detected, the warning is turned off and the steering assist function is restored.

Alternatively, the light may be activated when conditions for steering assist cannot be met. In this case when when steering wheel operation is detected steering assist remains deactivated.

More Assist Symbols

Steering assist indicatorSteering assist off indicatorThis pair from another manufacturer, seen in green and gray, offer a different perspective. In green, the symbol simply means the system is active. If it is displayed in gray, it means the system is inactive. This can occur if conditions do not allow lane keeping, such as when lane lines are not detected or poor weather conditions.

Steering assist offSteering or lane warningSteering assist graySimilarly from yet another manufacturer, the symbol in gray indicates the system is active. The same symbol in red indicates that the system is off or about to be switched off. Yellow/amber indicates that the system is about to be deactivated or has detected a lane crossing. The wheel may vibrate as well. It should be noted that this particular system takes a more active role in steering the vehicle.

Lane change assist lineLane change assist greenLane change assist grayThe system adds Lane Change Assist to Steering Assist. The system has control of the wheel. The symbols are seen in gray when unavailable or green when available and uses an arrow or line on the side required, in response to a turn signal.

The line indicates that a lane change is not currently possible. The arrow in gray means that a lane change is not possible, because of improper parameters, such as poor lane markings. The line in gray means that the lane change is not immediately possibly, likely a traffic concern. In all green, the system changes lanes.

Drowsy driver alertSteering assist activeSteering assist off indicatorAnother manufacturer uses the images to the left. The first, in red, is a warning that the car has detected a drowsy driver and that he/she must take the wheel. The second, in yellow/amber/orange, says only that the Steering Assist System is active. The third indicates that the system is off.

  • Before moving on, are you sure this is your symbol??
  • If not, you can return to our main Picture Symbols page and scan again!

The system operates when the vehicle is driven at speeds over 45 mph, and only when the lane markings are clearly visible on the road. The system will make small steering corrections keeping the vehicle in its lane.
