There is a battery inside your key fob and they go dead far faster than those in key start vehicles. And we are the leading authority for back up entry and start processes for keyless start vehicles with dead key fob batteries — anywhere. And regardless of the make and model, we can help (see the list above).

Modern push button ignition or keyless ignition vehicles are tricky to get into and start when the battery in the key fob, your car’s remote control or ‘clicker’, fails.

And it likely will fail, far earlier than the old keyless entry fob, since the new technology requires that the fob attempt to be in constant radio contact with the car. When it fails, you will see an image like the ones here or a text message like “Key Not Detected”.

We know the 50+ back-up options to start a keyless ignition vehicle. And we know the one that will work in your car!

At least sixteen manufacturers have chosen to hide the key hole or cylinder in some models for the sake of appearance, and one, Tesla, doesn’t use a key cylinder at all. We have them all here (see the links below): Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Ford, Holden, Hyundai, Jaguar, Kia, Land Rover, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, Mini, Porsche, Volkswagen and Volvo, as well as Tesla. Most are adding models every year.

Unfortunately, to the automotive industry this is a driver beware issue. You, the driver, are expected to learn any new system and have that knowledge at the ready when needed. Engineers and designers have clearly never talked a nervous driver through the process of prying off a piece of their vehicle and getting it started in the dead of night far from home.

We have…

At DashboardSymbols.com we think you deserve better. So, here’s the help you need, by vehicle manufacturer, since they are nearly all different – sometimes from model to model! We have instructions and illustrations for getting into and starting a keyless, or push-button, start car from 40 manufacturers.

There are over a dozen variations for retrieving the standard ‘hard’ key (and unless you drive a Tesla, there is a hard key) and several different ways to get in – including getting past the hidden keyholes in well over a dozen models. Then we have over 50 distinct starting variations and we’ll show you the one you need. No industry standardization here. None!

  • My car’s remote won’t work! No problem, we have the solution!
  • My push button-start doesn’t work! We’ve got you covered!
  • My car doesn’t recognize my key! The answers are here!

We’ve added several models through 2020 to the links above. And click here to explore our growing video library.

Remember that only proper service and repair procedures will ensure the safe and reliable operation of your car. In addition, proper safety procedures and precautions, such as the  use of safety goggles, the right tools and the equipment should be followed at all times to eliminate the possibility of personal injury or improper service which could damage the vehicle or compromise its safety.

These posts are for information sharing purposes only, and should not be used in lieu of an OEM service manual or factory authorized service procedure. We are not in the auto repair business nor do we publish automotive service manuals. Nothing we include on these pages and posts has been reviewed, approved or authorized by any vehicle manufacturer.

Technology is always changing and what is current and accurate today may be literally out-of-date and inaccurate tomorrow. And when it comes to the current state of flux in the auto industry, nothing is more true.
