Smart Regenerative System Indicators

Smart Regenerative System

Auto regenerative brake indicatorAuto regenerative brake indicator blueAuto regenerative brake indicator redThese images are Smart Regenerative System indicator symbols. The system is from Kia and uses the front radar to not only control the distance to a vehicle ahead but also to adjust the amount of regenerative braking is applied. Regenerative braking is found in electric vehicles (EVs) and uses the vehicle’s electric motor to send energy back to the battery when the vehicle is slowing.

  • Before continuing, is one of these truly your symbol?? If yes, read on below.
  • Otherwise, you can return to our main Picture Symbols page and scan again!

The indicators show the level of regenerative braking that has been set by the number of arrows in the image; 1, 2 or 3. Three arrow images are shown in all the images to the right. The word AUTO is added beneath the image. They are connected to Kia’s Smart Regenerative System. However, in this case, the number of arrows is a start point and will change depending on road gradient, the distance to a vehicle ahead and the speed of the vehicle ahead as the auto system takes hold.

There are three possible colors: White, blue and red. When the system is turned on but no vehicle is recognized ahead, the light remains white. When a vehicle is spotted, it goes to blue. If the driver steps on the brake pedal, the indicator goes to red.

Regenerative brake indicatorRegenerative brake indicator blueThis system is intimately connected to Regenerative Braking in general, and the symbols to the right. That page can be seen here.

Our primary picture symbols page has been completely transformed

DashboardSymbols.comPrimary picture symbols page

We just completed the transformation of our primary picture symbols page. It now moves through picture symbols by color, red, yellow/amber/orange (depending on how a driver sees the color), on to green and blue and finally black and white and gray scale indicators.

We kept three other sub-groups on the page as well, including hybrid and electric vehicle indicators, diesel-powered vehicle symbols, and a segment on information displays and message centers. This last one is where the black and white and gray scale indicators now appear.

As we noted in a previous post, our main page, which hosts all the images that are not text, had become a difficult mess to get through and was organized by technology categories. However, this assumes a driver even knows what tech category the mystery light he or she is searching for belongs to!

This is a massive oversite on our part.

We are thus committed to re-ordering everything on the site by color. It will be a long slog, as there are about 50 pages that will need the work. But the work will get done, and we sincerely hope that it simplifies your experience.

Cars are changing, and among those changes is the growing number of symbols and indicators that will invariably show up on your dashboard or instrument panel. Every year, new features are added to vehicles, each of which is accompanied by a new symbol or symbols and likely a new acronym.

At DashboardSymbols.com, our aim is to help you understand what is happening to your vehicle at the first sign of trouble – a new warning light illuminated on your instrument panel. Its all here on this website. Our first intention is to bring the latest technologies down to earth and understandable for everyday drivers.

The primary picture symbols page is found here.

And know that we still recommend searching by manufacturer here.

Automatic Headlight Dimmer and Malfunction Indicator Symbols

Auto Headlamps

Automatic high beamsAuto Headlamp Dimmer IndicatorThese are all Automatic Headlight Dimmer indicator symbols. The system is also known as the High Beam Assistant. Shown in the traditional blue of the high beam indicator or in green, the symbols indicates that the high beams are on and that the system will automatically (AUTO or A) switch between the low and high headlight beams on the automobile depending on whether or not sensors detect oncoming vehicle head lights in the distance.

  • But first, is one of these truly your symbol?? If yes, continue below.
  • Otherwise return to our main Picture Symbols page and scan again!

High-beam Assistant IndicatorHigh beam assistantAuto high beamAuto high beam indicatorThe letter A may or may not be seen inside the drawing representing a lamp. in fact, it often just seems like a game of where else can we drop the letter A! The lines pointing out represent light.

And believe it or not, similar systems have been available in some form on high-end vehicles since the 1950s!

More Versions

Active High Beams off indicatorOne manufacturer has chosen to combine the auto high beam indicator with the park light indicator. With the auto high beam system on, the symbol is seen in blue and green. With the high beam system off, the light is shown in white. The park lights are on in either instance.

Adaptive high beamThis version, in gray scale or black and white, indicates that the high beams have been turned off because a light has been detected in front of the vehicle. The high beams will reactivate when the light is no longer detected. The starker black and white indicates the system is on and working.

Auto high beam indicatorFrustratingly, this version, also in black and white, means exactly the opposite — it means that the automated system is on and ready for use! This means that you’ll need to consult your car’s manual to be sure what the light actually means.

Headlamp Malfunction 2Auto high beam malfunctionAuto high beam failureThese versions are Automatic Headlamp Dimmer Malfunction indicator symbols. They are displayed in yellow/amber/orange. The letter A, for Automatic, sits inside two of the headlamps and an exclamation point is added to the side in one. The other has the word AUTO inside and the color alone is used to indicate a problem. The headlights themselves will continue to function in high or low beam, but they will need to be cycled manually.

Light or rain sensor fault indicatorFinally, there is this one from Audi which for some reason they use as an Automatic Wiper Fault Indicator as well.  This looks like a hat or a lid open on one side with beams coming out of it to an oval shape in yellow/amber.

Headlight Levelling System WarningHeadlight Levelling IndicatorAll these indicators use the shape of an old style headlamp with lines pointing outward, which are meant to be beams of light. There are others that use these elements, such as those to the right, so don’t confuse them. Click here to learn more.

High, Low, or Main Beam On Indicators

High Beams

High Beam On IndicatorThese symbols are versions of the High, Low, or Main Beam On indicator. The light is active only when the high beams are active (turned on) and has been a standard in vehicles for decades is one of only a select few presented in a blue color and features what is supposed to be the image of an old-style headlamp with lines coming out from it.

  • Are you sure one of these is your symbol??
  • If not, return to our main Picture Symbols page and scan again!

Low beam indicatorAuto low beam indicatorThis next one is used by only a few manufacturers and is a Low or Dipped Beam On indicator. The image is in green and now shows the lines coming out from the headlamp pointing down indicating that the lights are aimed down. The same symbol with the A inside is part of a Auto Low Beam system, similar to auto high beam systems.

The terms low and high beam are commonly used in North America, while dipped and main beam are in more common use in Europe.

Low beam failureHigh beam failureFinally, these are, respectively, Low and High Beam Fault Indicators. They appear in yellow/amber/orange. Like the on lamps above, the lines point down for the low beam warning light and straight out for the high beam warning light.
