If applicable in your vehicle this warning light will be on if the parking brake is applied, which does not indicate a problem, or when the brake fluid level in the reservoir is low, which does. If the light is still seen when the parking brake is released, the brake fluid level is low.

With disc brakes, when the pads are heavily worn, the brake fluid level will be lowered as a matter of course. Check of have the brake pads checked for wear before adding brake fluid. One way or the other, do not ignore this warning light.
