Overload indicatorThis is an Overload Indicator symbol. It will be seen if the load weight of the vehicle has been exceeded. It appears as a weight, or what may seem like a bell, with an exclamation point inside in yellow/amber.

The symbol will appear with out the exclamation point if the load approaches but does not exceed the load weight. An overloaded vehicle could become unstable on the road or even blow a tire.

Electric Side Step or Automatic Running Board Indicators

Electric Side Step

Electric side step indicatorAuto runboard blocked indicatorThese are Electric Side Step or Automatic Running Board Indicator symbols. It is seen when the electric side step is activated by opening the side door or operating the sliding side door. If the first image remains lit, it indicates a fault that will require service. Be sure to check that the step is retracted before moving the vehicle.

If the second image remains lit, it indicates an obstruction preventing the running board from fully extending or retracting. Check for obstacles. If the warning light flashes, it indicates a fault that will require service from a qualified shop.

Side steps or running boards extend automatically to improve access to the vehicles. The first image appears as a tall rectangle (a van) with two circles or wheels underneath and a line and plus sign on one side in yellow/amber. The line represents the step.

The second appears a the side of a car with something protruding from it (the running board) and a double ended arrow, also in yellow/amber.

Running board indicatorThis truly oversimplified symbol, which consists only of parallel lines, indicates that the running boards have not extended in automatic mode. It is seen in black and white in the information screen and will be accompanied by a text message noting a problem. It is likely that they need to be cleaned in order to operate properly. The running boards can be extended in manual mode.

Pop Up Hood Warning Indicator

Pop up hood indicatorPop up hood indicatorThese are Pop Up Hood Warning Indicator symbols. The Pop Up Hood system is a pedestrian safety system akin to the interior air bags. The symbol warns that the system is not available, either due to a malfunction or because it has already been used. The light appears as the front of a vehicle with the hood separated or broken from the windshield.

The pop up hood is used – that is, blown open by explosives – if a front impact is detected that is equal to or greater than that of a pedestrian and between about 16 to 34 mph (25 to 55 km/h). The system may also activate when colliding with a curb, falling into a deep hole landing hard, or hitting the slope of a parking lot, an undulating road, a protruding object or falling object.

If the system has not been activated, have a qualified service shop or your dealer repair the system. If it has been used, it will need to be reset by the shop or dealer.

Rear Camera Detection Off Indicator

RCD off indicatorThis is a Rear Camera Detection (RCD) Off Indicator symbol. When seen it indicates that the rear camera is unavailable. If a buzzer is heard as well, it indicates a malfunction in the camera. A qualified service shop or your dealer will be needed. If a buzzer is not heard, it likely means the camera is dirty. Clean it, or the whole car!

Turn Assist IndicatorThis is a Turn Assist Indicator symbol. It will be illuminated only when the function is active and the green color only says it is operating. Turn assist is available in some all-wheel drive vehicle and only when the additional slow-speed or rough terrain systems are also active.

Automatic Shift Lock or Engine Start Operation Symbol

Shift Lock IndicatorThis is the Automatic Shift Lock (ASL) or an Engine Start Operation Indicator symbol. When the ignition is on, ASL locks the shifter in neutral or park. The symbol of a shoe inside the typical circular brake symbol is a reminder that the brake must be stepped on to release the lock and shift the transmission into drive or reverse.

It is found on vehicles with height control features, and the symbol indicates that the car will lower itself, or has been lowered, when the vehicle is turned off for easy access and egress. The image is of a man stepping down, although his head can look like it is caught in a vice. The green color is meant to only to note that the system is active.
