Alfa Romeo dashboard symbols page gets the new color alignment

Alfa Romeo LogoAlfa Romeo dashboard symbols

Our Alfa Romeo dashboard symbols page has now been re-ordered into the new color alignment. This makes 26 pages transformed to reflect the new color ordering, including our primary pictographic symbols page. We have slowly moving past the half way mark to re-ordering all our manufacturer symbols pages. There are 49 on the site.

This is another page that we updated in August adding almost a dozen new symbols in the process. The addition of a hybrid system in the 2024 Tonale was the primary cause of the increase.

E-boost indicatorE-boost indicator 2E-boost indicator 3Alfa Romeo added a new E-Boost system that required three brand new lights (right). E-Boost is a belt-driven 48V hybrid system. This system helps in stop-and-go (see this link) situations and translates to improvements for the official city fuel economy. Seen in white, the E-Boost system is unavailable. Seen in gray it is available and in green, it is engaged.

The indicators are seen as a lightning bolt in a cloud-like circle. As noted, the colors alert the driver to the status of the E-Boost system.

Page Alignment

As to the page alignment, the symbols page is now ordered first by red symbols, then to red with yellow/amber/orange option indicators, through to yellow/orange/amber (depending on how you interpret the color!), then to green and blue and finally to black and white or gray scale symbols.

Ordering the page by color provides a cleaner, simpler option for drivers searching for information on a new symbol.

Cars are changing, and among those changes is the growing number of symbols and indicators that will invariably show up on your dashboard or instrument panel. Every year, new features are added to vehicles, each of which is accompanied by a new symbol or symbols and likely a new acronym.

At DashboardSymbols.com, our aim is to help you understand what is happening to your vehicle at the first sign of trouble – a new warning light illuminated on your instrument panel. Its all here on this website. Our first intention is to bring the latest technologies down to earth and understandable for everyday drivers.

Our page covering Alfa Romeo indicators, with over 90, can be seen here.

Tonale back up start spot is a departure for Alfo Romeo

Alfa Romeo LogoTonale back up start

Alfa Romeo introduced a new model in 2023 and with it came a new back up start spot, necessary if and when the battery in the key fob dies. The Tonale back up start start spot is inside the front cup holder (below right). In fact, its a match to the 2023 Dodge Hornet. In addition, both of these Stellantis models went hybrid in 2024.

Tonale back up startPush button or keyless start cars and trucks need a location to touch or drop the key fob in the event the battery in the fob becomes depleted. This can happen as quickly as eight months, depending on use.

Alfa back upSince the introduction of the Giulia and Stelvio models, the only thing a driver of a keyless start Alfa Romeo had to do if their key fob died was to drop the fob in the bottom of the center console (right), a spot clearly marked by the outline of the fob itself. Time will tell if the new method in the Tonale will spread to additional models, old or new.

Smart Keys or Intelligent Keys, or Access Keys – or whatever the manufacturer of your chooses to call them – that let you into your car and start it with just a touch use up their internal batteries at alarming rates, catching busy drivers unawares – even though the car had tried to warn you.

Our goal is to help you feel safe – and keep you moving or get you moving if at all possible – rather than leave you fretting whenever your key fob stops working. The instructions for getting into and starting most keyless start cars can be found on our pages – without roadside assistance.

Alfa Romeo dashboard symbols page updated

Alfa Romeo LogoAlfa Romeo dashboard symbols

We updated our Alfa Romeo dashboard symbols page. In the process we added nearly a dozen new symbols.

This was due to the addition of a hybrid system in the 2024 Tonale. Most of the symbols we already featured from other manufacturers, but as is too often the case, the company added a new E-Boost system that required three brand new lights.

The Alfa Romeo symbols page is here and the E-Boost system got its own page here.

Start an Alfa Romeo with a Dead Key Fob

How to Start an Alfa Romeo with a Dead Key Fob

Alpha back upTo start your Alfa Romeo Giulia, Stelvio or Tonale with a dead key fob battery, you will need a back up location to place the fob. For the first two models, it can be found in the center console.

Clear away anything cluttering the bottom of the console. You should then see the outline of the key fob on the floor (right) with lines radiating from the top.  These are meant to indicate radio waves.

Tonale back up startIn the Tonale, the spot is in the front cup holder, as shown to the right. There is no marking we are aware of.

Place the fob on the spot. The car will recognize the fob even though the fob’s internal battery is dead and will start normally. The key fob can be removed once the car is started.

Note that Alfa Romeo says that to shut down the engine when the fob’s battery is dead, you will need to press and hold the Start / Stop button for several seconds. We’ve not seen this in any other vehicle…
