Roll Away Potential Dashboard Indicator

Roll Away Potential

Not in Park indicatorThis is a Roll Away Potential Indicator symbol. It indicates that the shift lever in a vehicle equipped with an automatic transmission is not fully engaged in Park. This leaves the potential for the vehicle to move even with the engine off.

  • Before continuing, are you sure this is your symbol?? If yes, then read on below.
  • Otherwise, you can return to our main Picture Symbols page and scan again!

The indicator appears as the image of a vehicle with a broken line above it with arrows at both ends, and in yellow/amber. The image should not be ignored. Even if you think the vehicle is fully in Park, attempt a reset. If the light stays on, have the vehicle checked by a qualified mechanic and engage the parking brake.

Cross Traffic Alert Dashboard Indicators

Traffic Alerts

Cross traffic alert indicatorCross traffic alertCross traffic assist indicatorThese are Cross Traffic or Rear Cross Traffic Alert Dashboard Indicator symbols. The cross traffic alert system is designed to alert a driver of vehicles approaching from either or both sides behind the vehicle when it is running and is shifted into reverse.

  • If not, you can return to our main Picture Symbols page and scan again!

Cross traffic alert redThe first two appear as drawings of two vehicles seen from above with lines radiating to the rear at the second vehicle with or without an exclamation point. The third is seen as a car from above with an arrow pointing down and lines radiating from each rear corner. All are in yellow/amber. Depending on manufacturer, the image may change to red when a vehicle is detected.

The systems generally work with approaching traffic at speeds below about 35 mph or 60 km/h. Coverage is dependent on obstructions from parked vehicles or other obstacles. Reversing slowly is said to help increase the coverage area and effectiveness, and is always a good idea anyway.

What the Hell is that Light on My Dashboard?

Warning Symbols and Tell-tales

DashboardSymbols.comWhat the Hell is that Light on My Dashboard? Automotive service departments across the country are inundated with questions like this on a daily basis. So, what IS that light? That new acronym? What do they mean? Do you know?

Here at DashboardSymbols.com, we will show you, to help you understand what is happening to your vehicle at the first sign of trouble — a new warning light illuminated on your instrument panel. And, with this site, we put the tools you need to get the proper service in the palm of your hand.

Cars are changing, and among those changes is the growing number of symbols and indicators that will invariably show up on your instrument panel. Every year, new features are added to vehicles, each of which is accompanied by a new symbol or acronym. Drivers are frustrated, afraid and sometimes even angry at the growing number of these seemingly senseless symbols. Known as tell-tales in the industry, we are dedicated to keeping them sorted out for you.

On this site you will find pictorial representations of all the little warning lights, symbols and signs that show up from time to time on your instrument panel, including the text versions. We can’t fix a problem for you. What we can do is give you enough information to know what you need to do and perhaps let you breath a little easier.

The intent of DashboadSymbols.com is show you what the symbol is and supply a summary of the function it describes as well as what, if anything, you can do. Certainly we can tell you what the manufacturer expects you to do. For the full function of any feature of your vehicle, refer to your owners manual or contact your dealer.

The point is to help you relax — and keep moving if at all possible — rather than leave you fretting whenever one of these lights shows up. And ultimately to create information tools you can keep with you for use 24/7.
