EV Low Battery Charge or Charging Issue Warning Indicator

Low Battery Charge

Except for a special case noted next, these are Low Battery Charge Warning Indicator symbols. This warning light comes on when the available power in an electric vehicle’s (EV’s) primary battery runs low. The images are meant to invoke the low fuel warning light in gasoline powered vehicles. Since we live in a world used to gasoline pumps, the indicator image is the familiar pump but with an electric plug at the end of the hose.

  • Before continuing, are you sure this is your symbol?? If yes, then read on below.
  • Otherwise you can return to our main Picture Symbols page and scan again!

The vehicle must be charged very soon or it will simply stop. This is particularly true if the indicator is red. A charge gauge on the instrument panel will indicate the actual power remaining.

BMW/Mini

The special case belongs to BMW and Mini. These two manufacturers use the very same yellow/amber/orange version to indicate that “the charging capacity of the charging station may be restricted or not available.” This of course means that the vehicle is plugged in to a charge station and has encountered a problem.

Maserati

This version, from Maserati, in black and white says nothing about the charge, but rather which side of vehicle the charge port is located. The left side, according to the arrow in this image. Many gas and diesel fueled vehicles use an arrow alongside the fuel pump as well for the fill location.

Similar Symbol

Don’t confuse the symbol with the one to the right, which is the actual gas pump. See more here.
