Steering warning

These are Emergency Steering Warning Indicator symbols. The emergency steering system is part of Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) and is currently found in Hyundai, Kia and Genesis vehicles. The symbols appear much like other collision avoidance system indicators, with one car behind another but with a steering wheel seen above the second vehicle.

The system is intended to assist steering — and hence the steering wheel — to aid in avoiding a collision with an oncoming vehicle from the front or the side or if a pedestrian or other obstacle is detected.

However, When seen in yellow/amber/orange, FCA is disabled or a malfunction is detected. It is recommended that detectors be cleaned (or the vehicle be washed). If yhis does not resolve the indicator, a service center visit will be needed.

The warning light will blink red when the function is operating and assisting with steering the vehicle.

Do not confuse these indicators with the Collision Avoidance Warning Indicators noted above. They look very, very similar but lack the steering wheel. You can learn more about these, two of which are seen to the right, at this link.
