Active emergency braking indicator

Emergency braking

This is an Active Emergency Braking Indicator symbol. It will be seen in yellow/amber/orange if the system has been deactivated or if a fault has been detected. Further, a warning message is displayed in the driver information center. It appears as a car with two lines behind it inside the traditional symbol for brakes, which is the circle in brackets.

  • Before continuing, is this truly your symbol?? If yes, read on below.
  • Otherwise, you can return to our main Manufacturer Symbols pages and scan again!

The most common reason for deactivation is blocked radar sensors or cameras, and most commonly due to dirt or poor weather conditions. If cleaning does not resolve the issue, find a good repair shop. Note also that the system will be deactivated if front seat passengers are not wearing their seat belts.

Active emergency braking can help to reduce the damage and injury from a crash with a preceding vehicle, with a cyclist or with a pedestrian when the driver does not actively take action either by manual braking or by steering. The driver is warned by the forward collision alert in advance of braking.

The symbol will flash, needlessly, if auto braking engages.

There are indicators related to the system, like the forward collision alert noted, that can be seen on this page. But this symbol, from Vauxhall, is the first we’ve seen that applies directly and only to the emergency braking system.

Technology is always changing and what is current and accurate today may be literally out-of-date and inaccurate tomorrow. And when it comes to the current state of flux in the auto industry, nothing is more true.
