The update of our Vauxhall symbols page is finished

Vauxhall Symbols

Our Vauxhall symbols page update is now complete, an update that added over 20 warning lights, symbols and/or indicators. The page now holds nearly 150 images.

Of the additions, a full 13 are actually new to our collection. And some are a surprise to those of us in North America.

Vauxhall is the first we’ve seen to feature an Active Emergency Braking symbol. It appears if the system has been deactivated or if a fault has been detected. Further, a warning message is displayed in the driver information center. A common “fault” is dirty sensors and/or cameras.

There are indicators related to the system, like the Forward Collision Alert, etc., but again this symbol is the first we’ve seen that applies directly and only to the emergency braking system.

The company also has a Passenger Air Bag Activated symbol (right), which is somewhat confusing, as it is shown with a strike through. And it does not mean that the air bag has deployed, but that it is available to be deployed in case of an accident, again despite the strike though.

This is associated with the use of switch located in the glove box that turns the air bag on and off, which, coupled with the second indicator shown, leads to the conclusion that child safety seats are allowed in the front seats in the EU. The second symbol (right) is a Child Seat Installed Indicator.

With all this, we can report that, to date, the company uses very few drive modes, which are an epidemic in North America.

Regardless, as we keep repeating, it is still a frustration to have to continually add new symbols when there are often times pre-existing versions that could be used. For instance, Vauxhall is now using a second lane keeping symbol when its original is perfectly fine and they are now using three fault symbols for the electric park brake. This can only confuse their drivers.

We continue to encourage all manufacturers to recycle existing symbols and not add more burden to their drivers.

Cars are changing, and among those changes is the growing number of symbols and indicators that will invariably show up on your dashboard or instrument panel. Every year, new features are added to vehicles, each of which is accompanied by a new symbol or symbols and likely a new acronym or abbreviation.

At DashboardSymbols.com, our aim is to help you understand what is happening to your vehicle at the first sign of trouble — a new warning light illuminated on your instrument panel. Its all here on this website. Our first intention is to bring the latest technologies down to earth and understandable for everyday drivers.

Our dashboard symbols page covering Vauxhall indicators, and its over 110 entries, can be seen here.
