A review of 2026 owner’s manuals found one update for our Cadillac back-up open page, which is finished. A back-up entry option is made necessary in the event that the key fob battery has died,

The new Vistiq and Optiq electric vehicles (EVs) follow the same path as the original Lyriq EV: if the key fob battery has died, and no other open options are available, the trunk or liftgate must be unlocked using the mechanical key in the spot shown to the left.

Doing so will unlock the front door and the door handles will extend allowing entry.

Its awkward and unusual but not unheard of for a vehicle made by General Motors to require a back-up entry to pass through the vehicle trunk. Coupe models built by General Motors, such as the Chevrolet Corvette and Cadillac CTS, XLR and ELR have used this for decades.

Those models feature a cable pull inside the trunk that that pops the driver’s door open.
