Toyota back-up processes

A full revue of Toyota back-up processes for opening and starting 2026 models finds not a single change. Back-up open and start processes become necessary for those times that the battery in the key fob needs replacing.

The company has yet to fall victim to the trend that was actually started by sister company Lexus, which likes to hide the key holes. All Toyota models use a very conventional door handle and visible key hole. No flush handles in particular.

Further, the back-up start process that has been used by both companies remains in play. A simple touch of the back of the key fob to the start/stop button allows their vehicles to recognize the fob. No using cup holders, or center consoles or any other locations for back-up start options.

Also, Toyota continues to use mechanical locks and latches, avoiding potentially dangerous issues generated by the use of electronic versions. We wish we could say the same about Lexus.

From our perspective, Toyota‘s approach is a very refreshing find. It ain’t broke, so …
