BTS data shows LA is costliest for commuters

LA is costliest

The Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) sent out a massive data set today, including one that showed LA is costliest for commuters. By a long shot.

As part of a massive table titled Annual Highway Congestion Cost inside the massive data set, Los Angeles easily outstrips the remaining urban areas in the U.S., with costs approaching $4,000 per year. The number are from 2024, the last complete set. You can see the table here.

Only the San Francisco Bay area comes close to LA, at over $3,300 per year. The table below is a very small sample that happens to include New York, which, as congested as it is, pales in comparison at just under $2,700. It and LA can be seen together in the small sample shown in the first image.

Atlanta, Chicago, Miami, Riverside, San Diego, Seattle and Washington D.C. are the remaining urban areas that exceed $2,000 per year.

The second image shows how the urban areas were divided and the average costs, which range from $2,382 to only $926 per year from large to small. And all these costs continue to rise.

All very useful information if you a planning a move.

Again, the table is here.
