The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported two General Motors recalls that concern a transmission control valve that may fail and cause the rear wheels to lock up. Recall ids 26V083000 and 26V085000 impact a total of 44,787 vehicles.
Recall 26V083000 is a second round for 1,055 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and 3500, GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500, 2020-2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles that may have been repaired incorrectly under recall 24V797.
Separately, recall 26V085000 is issued for 43,732 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV vehicles equipped with 10 Speed Transmission with ETRS (Electronic Transmission Range Select) for the same transmission control valve.
General Motors‘ (GM) number for the first recall is N252516560 and for the second is N252536750. In the first recall, which is a re-do, dealers will inspect the vehicles and update the transmission control software, free of charge. In the second, dealers will simply install new transmission control module (TCM) software, and again free of charge.
In both cases, owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 30, 2026. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020.
NHTSA did not report any accidents or injuries as a result of failing control valves. Vehicle identification numbers can be searched for applicability at https://www.nhtsa.gov/.
