A review of 2026 models of Ford emergency entry procedures, made necessary in the event the battery in the key fob dies or there is signal interference, did not find a single change.

In fact, it’s going on a decade since the company made any changes at all.

The only wrench in Ford‘s works is a lack of a physical back-up entry for the Mustang Mach E. It relies on electronic access only, either through the key fob, a smart phone app or a key pad provided on the door pillar.

All other models provide a key hole for use with a mechanical key found in the key fob.

Oddly, the Mach E uses the same fob! And its been in use since 2017.

Not all key holes are created equal however. Expedition (right), Fusion and Mustang GT models either hide the key hole (Expedition and Fusion) or require using one in the trunk area (GT).
