A full review of 2024 and 2025 models results in the addition of 17 new indicators to the Mazda dashboard symbols page. This is due to the addition of a number of new technologies to Mazda models.

The most significant one is from what the company calls Cruising & Traffic Support (CTS), which results in one of only three truly new symbols shown on the page (we added a few new text symbols as well). It is a malfunction indicator, seen below right. CTS, part of Mazda‘s i-ACTIVSENSE system, is a technology that consists of a headway control and steering assist function for reducing driver fatigue during traffic jams when driving on expressways or highways.

Cruise and traffic support warningThe mention of “traffic jams” suggests it is meant to operate at slow speeds. However, further in Mazda’s description of the system, it states that “If a vehicle ahead is traveling at an extremely low speed, the system may not detect it correctly.” So its clear that this is meant to be “heavy traffic” not traffic jams.

It is, in effect, a low level self drive system that Mazda is playing catch up with.

Emergency lane keeping offCharge mode indicatorThe other two new indicators are a Charge Mode indicator (right), used in a new hybrid model, and another that indicates that lane keeping is turned off (far right). In the latter case, Mazda chose to adds an arrow in the direction of travel and a star to suggest a collision to an existing symbol. It also removes a lane line.

New technological additions will continue to swell the number of indicators drivers must cope with, and we’ll make another plea for manufacturers to at least draw from existing symbols rather than create new one unnecessarily.

You can see the Mazda dashboard symbols page, now numbering over 80 total indicators, here.

Remember that only proper service and repair procedures will ensure the safe and reliable operation of your car. In addition, proper safety procedures and precautions, such as the use of safety goggles, the right tools and the equipment should be followed at all times to eliminate the possibility of personal injury or improper service which could damage the vehicle or compromise its safety.

Technology is always changing and what is current and accurate today may be literally out-of-date and inaccurate tomorrow. And when it comes to the current state of flux in the auto industry, nothing is more true.
